History of The Powerhouse
Originally an electricity substation, The Powerhouse was redeveloped by Garnett Cloughley Blackmore & Associates, whose house style of pure geometric forms and creative use of glass, acrylic and aluminium, blended with pop art styling, epitomised the 1960s’ swinging London.
Their constructions included a revolving restaurant on the 34th floor of the Post Office tower, the electronic Kool-Aid interiors of the Chelsea Drugstore, framed for posterity in Stanley Kubrick’s film, A Clockwork Orange, the glamorous Albrizzi furniture showroom on Sloane Square, a Bond-style discothèque – complete with piranha fish swimming beneath the glass dance floor – and the breezy Scratchwood service station at the southern end of the M1 motorway. At its peak GCB designed interiors for the new QE2, flats for the fashionably wealthy and complete holiday villages in Sardinia for Lord Forte.
In the Powerhouse you can simply rent a desk or a whole floor – whatever suits your office needs.
